I’m going to do something a little bit different this morning. It’s just after 8:30 a.m. on the East Coast in the US, and I’m feeling bolder than usual. It’s also New Year’s Eve, and in less than 16 hours, we will be ringing in 2025 🥳!
Naturally, most of my writing will be dedicated to the more atypical content that I love. If you read my piece, “A City Beyond Time,” you know what I mean. However, I also like to spice things up every now and again too. I also love to stir the pot as well.
I’m going to admit something this morning, that some may find shocking. And guess what….. It relates to the quest of, “finding the one”, that so many of us seem to be overtaken by. I spent yesterday evening in front of Disney Plus watching The Orville and recovering from a stomach bug. While I appreciate the occasional “binge”, it’s not my normal fun time. What I found increasingly annoying was the amount of ads Disney has now incorporated into their basic streaming subscription. Last night, the ads were particularly annoying… Considering 7 out of every 10 were related to dating, matching, coupling, and finding “The One”.
I had to laugh a little, because one featured a life coach and podcaster announcing they were partnering with Match, to encourage people to date differently. I literally wanted to roll my eyes after I saw the add a dozen times. The Ad definitely checked all the boxes to try to rope single individuals in. First, let’s get to the “Life Coach”…. A slim and fit, well-groomed guy with a full head of hair with a trim and neat beard. Age-wise, they are in their mid to later 30s. Oh, and to tie it off, he had a nice accent to entice you further.
Match basically presented someone that many people would consider a piece of eye candy. Have you ever noticed, they never present someone who is 40 lbs overweight, has three hairs left on their head, and who is proportionally awkward? Like every dating application on the market, it’s always about looks. Let’s be honest, dating applications do very little but present human beings as cattle, for others to take a quick look at a picture or two before judging them with all-mighty swipe 👋 !
What’s even more humorous is, we as a society keep buying their scam. Subjecting ourselves to be silently ridiculed by others based on a couple of images and a few prompts. I’ll certainly admit, I’ve tried a number of dating apps over the years, and have never had any luck with them. In fact, not only will I admit I’ve given a dating app a try multiple times…. I’ll also admit, I’ve always managed to stay single.
Now, I know what some will probably be thinking…..”This dude must look horrible”. I will admit, I’m certainly not “James Bond”. Or a pretty boy in general. Naw, I’m more real than that, and I often have my head in the clouds as I go about my life. If you ask nicely, perhaps I’ll share a picture here shortly 😂😂.
I’m also not a fan of people who call themselves “Life Coaches”, especially ones who spend time in Dubai…….Fulfillment comes when we look within, not when we seek out some external source to help us find purpose… Plain and simple.
Yet so many on the planet still walk that external path. After all, that’s exactly what most dating has become, especially in the Western world. A search for someone to complete, what is already whole…. Anyways, whether you’re single, married, or in another kind of relationship, enjoy your New Year. 2025 is going to be a very interesting year 🙏🏻. Oh, and to be fair, I’ll share a pic of myself and my crazy dog 😂. Happy New Year everyone 😊.
